Age Calculator

Calculate your exact age in years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Find date differences, upcoming birthdays, zodiac signs, generation, and life statistics.

How Age Calculation Works

Age calculation involves computing the precise difference between a date of birth and a target date, accounting for varying month lengths, leap years, and calendar conventions. While seemingly simple, accurate age calculation requires careful handling of edge cases.

A leap year occurs every 4 years (with exceptions for century years not divisible by 400), adding February 29th to the calendar. This means a year can be either 365 or 366 days long. People born on February 29th technically only have a birthday every 4 years, though they legally age every year.

Different cultures calculate age differently. In most Western countries, age is counted from birth (a newborn is 0 years old). In some East Asian traditions (Korean age, Chinese age), a baby is considered 1 year old at birth, and everyone ages one year on New Year's Day rather than their birthday.

Age is important for legal milestones (voting, driving, retirement), medical contexts (pediatric dosages, screening schedules), insurance calculations, and demographic analysis. Our calculator provides exact breakdowns in multiple time units for precision.
